For all the yards Brother Martin’s Bruce Jordan-Swilling has rushed for in his career, he and the Crusaders could have used a couple more Friday night in the Division I semifinals in Scotlandville. Brother Martin won the rubber match of a series of three years worth of playoff encounters with Catholic of Baton Rouge while also denying the Bears a shot of repeating as state champions with a 28-0 win over previously unbeaten Catholic in the Division I quarterfinals Friday in Baton Rouge. Brother Martin used a 28-point second quarter to exploded past McKinley 42-0 in the opening round of the Division I playoffs Friday at Zephyr Field. The Crusaders, the No. 6 seed, advanced to take on Catholic of Baton Rouge. Catholic, the No. 3 seed, had a first-round bye. McKinley, which ended its season 4-7, was the No. 11 seed. By Bill Curl John Curtis baseball player Austin Haensel will continue his career at Southern University in 2017.  Heading into his senior season at Curtis, Haensel signed with the Jaguars today in a ceremony in the school atrium. Jesuit takes on Rummel in rematch to open Division I playoffs

Although seven of the schools in the 13-team Division I playoffs are from District 9-5A, there will be only one Catholic League rematch in the open round. Jesuit, as the No. 9 seed, will be at No. 8 Rummel on Friday to start the playoffs. The Raiders edged Jesuit 17-10 in Week 7 of the regular season.
