On the surface, it seemed like another dominating win for the Brother Martin wrestling team. Powered by six individual champions, the Crusaders won the team title of the Trey Culotta Tournament in convincing fashion with 522 points, 117 better than second place Vestavia Hills, AL. But dig a little deeper, and Robbie Dauterive, Brother Martin’s winningest wrestling coach in school history wasn’t so sure. “I’m pleased with winning here today... Keep Reading

Regardless of what you might call it, the numbers were in favor of the Rummel Raiders. The defending Class 5A state champions won the first-ever Division I title by a single point as the Raiders rallied for a 23-22 victory over Byrd on Thursday night in the Superdome in New Orleans. A quick Rummel touchdown allowed the Raiders to rally to within three points at 19-16 early in the third quarter. A Byrd field goal... Keep Reading

C.E. Byrd High of Shreveport, whose corridors opened to students for the first time in 1925, has accumulated seven state football championships in its lengthy history. But all of them could probably use a bit of spit and polish. The last trophy was presented to the school in 1949, an athletic highlight that was followed by a 64-year drought that the Yellow Jackets hope to terminate Thursday, Dec. 12 at 8:30 p.m. As the first Shreveport/Bossier... Since he has been deemed by national recruiting journalists as the best high school football player in the nation, it seems only natural that St. Augustine senior running back Leonard Fournette would also be cited as the Outstanding Player on offense in the Catholic League. And so he has. The sensational back, who rushed for 1,802 yards on 194 carries and scored 16 touchdowns, has been cited by NOLACatholicLeague.com for his standout performances. Fournette (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) also... Keep Reading

On a cool, crisp Saturday night at a crammed Joe Yenni Stadium, the No. 1-ranked, No. 1-seeded Purple Knights of St. Augustine had designs on ending a lengthy void, one that dated back 34 years to the school’s last appearance in a state football championship back in 1979. Conversely, the Raiders of Rummel were also seeking a return to the state championship finals -- for the first time in 50 weeks. By virtue of a reverse-field... Keep Reading
