Rummel (3-1) was looking for a breakout game Saturday Night against Catholic High of Baton Rouge. The defending state champs used something that’s been a symbol of the Raiders program. They used a strong running game and a stalwart defense that can shut things down. A week after suffering their first loss in two years, the Raiders outplayed and out muscled the Bears (3-1) to pull out a 32-7win at Joe Yenni... Keep Reading

It wasn’t quite as early as last week when Shaw scored on the opening kickoff, but the Eagles scored three touchdowns in the opening quarter on their way to a commanding 38-6 win over Higgins Saturday at Muss Bertalino Stadium. “We scored early in this game we got out to a good start,” said Shaw coach Scott Bairnsfather.  “Our defense was superb the whole game. It may not have been the start Jesuit coach Wayde Keiser was looking for, but running out the clock on a 28-7 victory with the ball at the Pensacola 1-yard line was a nice way to finish against an old rival. “When we decided (to play) at game-speed we started doing better.,” said Keiser. “We’ve got to come and play at game speed from the beginning of the kickoff, not... Holy Cross’ 23-0 triumph against West St. John Friday night at Pan American Stadium may have improved the Tigers’ record to 4-0, but it did nothing to improve the Tigers’ physical well-being. Holy Cross scored once on offense, once on defense and three times on special teams but the effort was marred by the loss of three key starters before the players had barely a chance to break a sweat. Starting quarterback... Keep Reading

Taking a page from history, two old adversaries will rekindle their long-ago rivalry on Friday when Jesuit hosts Pensacola High in a non-district football game at Tad Gormley Stadium.            For the young players who will compete on the field, the history of this rivalry means little. It’s just a game both teams are anxious to win; for the Pensacola Tigers because they... Keep Reading

After suffering its first lost last weekend, Brother Martin football coach Mark Bonis is expecting his football team to focus on improving this week when it returns to action Saturday afternoon at Tad Gormley Stadium. The Crusaders will need to meet those expectations when they meet high-scoring East Ascension, a team that is built around a “must see” player according to its own coach. The 3-0 Spartans cracked the LSWA 5-A Top Ten... Keep Reading

Brother Martin (2-1) has been coming behind in their first two games this season. Both games resulted in victories. But this time the Franklinton Demons (2-1) rolled through Tad Gormley Stadium on Saturday night. The Demons made some big plays and shutout the Crusaders 29-0.                It was a defensive struggle throughout the first half. The scoreboard was even working because of bad weather. The Fournette brothers did a number on the Covington Lions on Friday night. Leonard Fournette, the nation’s most highly-coveted running backs, rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown, while also tossing and catching for scores in St. Augustine’s 40-27 win at Covington. Fournette’s younger brother, Lanard, rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown. Even with the efforts of the Fournette brothers, the Purple Knights could not pull away until the second... Keep Reading
