A little deja vu for No.2 Brother Martin and No. 3 Jesuit helped both teams to sweeps in regional play of the Class 5A baseball playoffs sending the Crusaders and Blue Jays into the Quarterfinals.

Brother Martin got a tie-breaking home run from Raphael Deroche for a second straight day and defeated Zachary 8-2.

About and hour later, Jesuit put the final touches on a 5-hit shutout by Brandon Sequeria to shutout Rummel 1-0. It was the second straight game that the Blue Jays shutout the Raiders who did not score a run against Jesuit in four games this year.

A well-executed hit-and-run by Spencer Miller set up the lone run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. After a walk loaded the bases, Dan Edmund came through with the game-winning single to center scoring the game’s lone run.

The Quarterfinals will also be a best-of-three format with Brother Martin hosting No. 10 Live Oak and Jesuit hosting No.6 Alexandria.
