Brother Martin edges Shaw 2-0

Photo by: Eric RicheyBrother Martin's Corey Gaconi pitched a 5-hit shutout as the Crusaders edged Shaw 2-0 to move back into a first-place tie with Jesuit.


Fresh off beating Jesuit the No.2 ranked 5A team in the state, Shaw came up just short losing 2-0 against No.3 ranked Brother Martin in a gritty pitching performance by both Brother Martin’s Corey Gaconi and Shaw’s Austin Jackson.

The Crusaders scored in the first inning when Daniel Lahare scored on Owen Magee’s groundout and again in the fourth on an RBI single from Jonathan Parker, which scored Gregory Deichmann.

Gaconi (5-1) threw a complete game 5-hit shutout, striking out 5 with no walks.

Jackson also threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and one earned run.

The win moves Brother Martin (21-3, 5-1) back into a first place tie with Jesuit in the Catholic League.

Shaw drops to 17-9, 3-3.
