Rummel swimmer Vanderbrook headed to Indiana

Rummel standout swimmer Thomas Vanderbrook has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Indiana University choosing the Hoosiers over LSU and Texas A&M. In each of the past two seasons, Vanderbrook has won the Division I State Championship in both the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke. By Bill Curl John Curtis baseball player Austin Haensel will continue his career at Southern University in 2017.  Heading into his senior season at Curtis, Haensel signed with the Jaguars today in a ceremony in the school atrium. Deichmann named Louisiana Baseball HS Player of the Year

Brother Martin senior shortstop Gregory Deichmann has been named the Louisiana Baseball High School Player of the Year. The LSU signee, Deichmann hit .354 with a Brother Martin single-season record 11 home runs. He also had a .854 slugging percentage and finished his career with 22 home runs for the Crusaders. Brother Martin eliminated after 10-6 loss to Live Oak

For the first time in three games, Brother Martin showed glimpses of the offensive power the Crusaders have been for much of the season. But a 5-run second inning from Live Oak proved too great to overcome as No.2 Brother Martin lost the rubber match with the Eagles 10-6, ending their season a win away from a trip to the 5A Final Four. Live Oak’s Zach Hansen threw a 1-hit complete game shutout to even the best-of-three 5A Quarterfinal series with brother Martin at 1-1. Brother Martin won the first game 6-3 but managed only 3 hits in the game. The decisive third game of the series will be played 10:30 this morning at UNO’s Maestri Field. Keep Reading

Jesuit sweeps Alexandria to advance to 5A Semifinals

After a two-day rainstorm and a rare 3-run deficit, Jesuit came out standing completing a 2-game sweep with an 8-0 shutout over Alexandria earning the Blue Jays a spot in the 5A State Semifinals. C.J. Avrard (9-1) pitched a complete game 4-hit shutout striking out six and walking two. Alex Galy went 4-for-4 with 2 RBI, while Stephen Sigle went 2-for-4, with 2 RBI. Joshua Tannehill and Brian Hunt, members of the Archbishop Rummel District 9-5A Championship Track and Field Team, signed National Letters of Intent to compete for Southeastern Louisiana University at the NCAA Division I level. Southeastern won the 2014 Indoor Southland Conference Championship.
