Mt. Carmel wraps up their final practice of the season Wednesday at Big Easy Sportsplex in Elmwood.

Mt. Carmel climbed to the top of Louisiana's Division I softball mountain last season winning their first state championship since 2008.

It's a feeling that they want again.

"I want these girls to prove to everyone that they are what they say they are and they're not just a one-hit wonder," said Mt. Carmel coach Katie Bailey. "I want them to go out there and take it by charge. I want them to 15-run rule everybody and then leave (Sulphur) knowing we gave it everything we had and we left everything on the field. For me to look around and see that, I have 21 girls who yes, they won a state championship but it's more than that. They're winning at the game of life and they leave me a better person."

It starts on the mound for the Cubs with LSU Commitment senior pitcher Shelby Wickersham who sports a 15-4 record, 1.04 ERA and eye-popping 218 strikeouts in 128 innings.

"We're so ready to get out there and prove ourselves again," said Wickersham. "(Repeating) does add a little bit of pressure to us, we do not want to come home without that state trophy."

The No.1 seed, Mt. Carmel faces No.8 McKinley 5:00 p.m.Thursday in Sulphur.

The Division I semifinals and state championship are set for Saturday.
