A methodic scoring attack coupled with a stifling defense was the combination Rummel used to dominate Shaw 42-7 to win the annual “Battle for the Megaphone” for the sixth straight time.

“You never take for granted this megaphone,” said Rummel coach Jay Roth. “It’s the saddest day in any Rummel or Shaw player’s life player when you have it and have to give it back. I know it Rummel we didn’t have it for 15 years back in the late 80’s early 90’s so you better enjoy it while you have it.”

It was the Rummel defense that got the scoring started on the game’s second play from scrimmage when Andre Danove returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown as the Raiders shot out to a 7-nothing lead.

“Jacoby (Fury) he got under the bubble (screen pass) and the quarterback hesitated and he threw it, the receiver missed it and it landed in my hands,” said Danove. “My eyes got big and I saw blockers ahead and I dove at the end. I had to get one for the team.”

Three rushing touchdowns gave Rummel a 28-0 halftime lead, the third coming from Jermie Walker from 18-yard out after some prophetic words from his head coach.

“Last week I couldn’t get in the end zone, and this week (Roth) said he was going to plan it and get me in the end zone,” said Walker. “I was pumped, I was excited, I didn’t know what to do.”

The Raiders added a Keirell Jackson 16-yard rushing touchdown and a 10-yard passing score from Jacob Palma to Evan Francioni as time expired in the third quarter to close out their scoring.

Shaw added a touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run from quarterback Pete Taylor.

Rummel now leads the series 29-23.

Rummel improves the 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the Catholic League, while Shaw falls to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in Catholic League play.

The game will be the subject of the sports reality show, "All Access Replay" which airs Wednesday October 5th at 5:30 p.m. on Cox Sports Television and replays on CST Thursday October 6th at 6:00 p.m.
