Teurlings Catholic scored on its first three possessions and that would prove to be more than enough as the Rebels cruised to a 38-0 victory over Shaw on Friday night in Lafayette.
It marked the second game in a row to open the season that Shaw (0-2) has been beaten on the road by scores of 38-0. In the season opener, the Eagles lost 38-0 at East St. John.
Although Teurlings Catholic’s offense didn’t need the help, the defense aided the Rebels (2-0) in getting their first score of the game. A fumble recovery by Teurlings defensive end Cole Newland set up a 7-yard run by fullback Jansen Lormand to give the Rebels the early lead.
A 1-yard touchdown by Tyler Bruno to cap a 13-play drive extended the Rebels’ lead.
Hayden Cantrelle’s 15-yard scoring toss to Lormand in the second quarter put Teurlings Catholic on top by three touchdowns.
Cantrelle added a 5-yard touchdown run to open the second half.
Teurlings Catholic’s defense again set up another score, this time when linebacker Kade Sonnier intercepted an errant Pete Taylor that that led to a 44-yard field goal by Aaron Broussard.
