A dominating 5-0 record in Day One has defending tournament champion Brother Martin in the semifinals at the Deep South Bayou Duals in Baton Rouge.
“Today went as well as we wanted it to because our number one concern today was to sit our starters and for the most part we were able to do that the whole way through,” said Brother Martin coach Robbie Dauterive. “I really thought our (backup) guys did really well and carried us into a tough semifinal match (with Altus, Oklahoma) tomorrow.”
Brother Martin defeated Ft. Walton Beach FL (57-6), Lafayette (61-12), Brusly (49-15), Comeaux (60-12), and Duncan, OK (59-6).
Holy Cross also went a perfect 5-0 and will face Thompson, AL in the other semifinal match. Jeff Argrave went a perfect 5-0 at 113 for the Tigers culminating with a 5-0 decision over Sean Nadeau of Liverpool in the quarterfinals.
Jesuit got off to a 4-0 start, which included a 40-32 win over Rummel before losing to Altus 47-19 in the quarterfinals. Guy Patronm Jr. led the way individually for the Blue Jays going 6-0 at 195.
Josh Rameriz of Rummel was dominant at 160 going 5-0 with 3 pins, and 2 technical falls. Joe Kerry was equally impressive for the Raiders at 170 with a 5-0 day which included 4 pins.
Shaw finished the day 1-3 but individually Max Chambers shined at the 160-pound weight class going a perfect 4-0.
Semifinal action begins at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Baton Rouge River Center with the finals slated for 4:00 p.m.
