St. Augustine just spotted Scotlandville too big a lead in the Purple Knights’ rally attempt Friday in Scotlandville.
The Purple Knights (0-2) trailed by 22 points at halftime before they began to rally but there was simply no catching up to Scotlandville in St. Aug’s 36-20 loss.
Scotlandville (2-0) started quickly, scoring on its first three drives of the game.
A 38-yard kickoff return, along with a personal foul penalty against the Purple Knights, set up the game’s opening score on a 1-yard touchdown run by Marcus Stokes and a two-point conversion pass from Levi Lewis to Rashane Alexander to give Scotlandville a 8-0 lead.
On the Hornets’ next possession, Lewis scrambled down to the 1-yard line to set up Stokes’ second touchdown of the game to increase the Scotlandville lead to 16-0.
An 11-yard run by Lewis in the second quarter allowed the Hornets to take a 22-0 halftime lead.
St. Augustine missed out on several opportunities to get back in the game in the opening half.
The Purple Knights advanced inside the Scotlandville 20-yard line twice in the opening two quarters but came away with no points when St. Augustine turned the ball over on downs on both occasions.
Two of St. Augustine’s touchdowns in the second half came on long passes from quarterback Justice McCoy to Josh White.
