Rummel went into Friday night with a chance to lock up their first outright Catholic League title since 2015, and they did just that with a fairly convincing 27-0 victory over Jesuit at Tad Gormley Stadium.
The Raider defense was dominant yet again shutting out their sixth opponent of the season, and two others only managed three points. Friday against Jesuit, Rummel’s defense outscored the Blue Jays by themselves with two pick-6’s by junior linebacker Kolbe Fields in the second quarter and senior cornerback Malik Woodery in the fourth to seal the win.
Jesuit’s defense was stout holding Rummel to just one touchdown and a pair of field goals, and the offense had some relative success getting to Rummel’s 31-yard line on six different occasions, but they just couldn’t finish drives.
The No. 6 Blue Jays will begin their Division I playoff run Thursday against No. 11 Shaw at Tad Gormley Stadium at 7 p.m. while No. 1 Rummel will have a bye.
