John Curtis softball won five straight state championships under Kristy Hebert from 2003-07.
They won four straight from 2012-15 under current coach Jerry Godfrey.
After a two year drought the Lady Patriots would like to start another championship streak.
“As far as the playoff, it's always been the same motto; try to throw more strikes, play better defense, and have one more hit than the other team,” said Godfrey. “We've been working really hard the past two weeks and have tried to stay on schedule.”
The Lady Patriots have solid senior leadership starting with catcher/second baseman Alyssa Dean.
“As we approach (the tournament) we get more excited,” said Dean. “This is my final practice and I'm so ready to just come out with a bang and prove everybody wrong. People talk about Mt. Carmel and ask are we going to get Mt. Carmel (in the state championship). Honestly that's not our focus right now. We're focusing on game-by-game, pitch-by-pitch. We're just ready to win a state title.”
The Memphis commitment, Dean is hitting .454, 6 HR, 22 RBI.
The No.2 seed Lady Patriots face No.7 St. Joseph's Academy 5:00 p.m. Thursday at Frasch Park in Sulphur.
The Division I semifinals and finals are set for Saturday.
