The Louisiana High School Athletic Association on Friday released a memorandum to member schools concerning the status of fall sports activities moving forward with the end of summer rules.
Here is the memorandum from the LHSAA:
“The Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s summer rules end on August 9, 2020, meaning the start of fall sports which includes cross country, football, swimming and volleyball.
“Earlier this week, Governor John Bel Edwards announced the extension of Phase II until August 28, 2020 for the State of Louisiana. While all fall sports can practice under phase II, guidelines for contests for the sports of cross country, football, swimming and volleyball were reviewed by the LHSAA Executive Committee and the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC) to provide a safe environment for student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, athletic trainers, game officials and spectators. The LHSAA acknowledges that no plan can guarantee that an individual will not contract COVID-19. The recommendations in this plan are designed to mitigate the spread of the virus.
“Friday’s full memo sent to member schools at 12:20 p.m. is posted at: http://cdn.lhsaa.org/uploads/images/Fall_Sports_COVID-19_Guidelines_8-7-2020_(Complete).pdf
“The LHSAA continues to have conversations with the Executive Committee, SMAC and local health officials to ensure the proper recommendations and guidelines are being put in place for member schools.”
