Rummel’s offense came up with two first-quarter touchdowns and the defense totally shut down Covington in the Raiders’ 21-0 blanking of the Lions on Friday night in Covington.
A 7-yard touchdown run by Dwan Trufant gave the Raiders (2-0) a 7-0 lead.
An interception by Caleb Powell of a Lions pass set up Keirell Jackson’s touchdown run with four minutes left in the first quarter to give Rummel a 14-0 lead that would last through halftime.
The only other touchdown in the contest came in the closing moments of the game on Shahid Reece’s interception return of an errant pass by Lions quarterback Josh Alfaro. The Raiders linebacker also sacked Alfaro three times in the game.
Rummel’s defense, which held the Lions (1-1) to 54 total yards in the second half, forced two fumbles and intercepted two passes in the final two quarters of the game.
The Raiders’ defense held Covington running back Devin Brunfield to 13 yards rushing.
